VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!Can you help? Due to losing a couple of members from the rota, we are in need of some volunteers for the coffee rota. It would be a shame if we had to go back to once a fortnight like we used to do. The more volunteers we have, the less frequently you will need to do it. We are also looking for Sides people. If you can help with either of these roles please speak to Nichola. Thank you.

This is a very special year for Christingle, as it marks 50 years since we held the first Christingle service in this country at Lincoln Cathedral on 7 December 1968.
But Christingles themselves actually date back even earlier, and began in the Moravian Church in Germany.
At a children’s service in Marienborn in 1947, Bishop Johannes de Watteville looked for a simple way to explain the happiness that had come to people through Jesus. He decided to give the children a symbol to do this. This was a lighted candle wrapped in a red ribbon.
At the end of the service, whilst the children held their candles, the bishop said the prayer, ‘Lord Jesus, kindle a flame in these children's hearts that theirs like thine become.’
How Christingle grew
In 1968, John Pensom of The Children's Society, known as ‘Mr Christingle’, brought Christingle to this country and introduced it to the Church of England. This involved children decorating an orange with a red ribbon, dried fruits, sweets and a candle to create a new visual representation of Christ, the light of the world, celebrated by the lighting of the Christingle candles.

Puddings, Fairs and Christmas Trees from this weekend – all sure signs that Christmas is fast approaching! And the readings for this Sunday are about Christ the King. The real message of the season is – are you ready? Not for celebrating, with turkeys and tinsel, but for the time when Jesus shall come and the Kingdom of God arrives in all its fullness. That’s not supposed to be just the gloomy time that some people expect – but rather the time when all things come right. We celebrate King Jesus – when we see Heaven and Earth restored to what they should be
And we are to be signs of that coming Kingdom. Amidst all the things that go wrong – unrest, earthquakes and famines – we are the people who know Jesus to rule in our hearts and lives. It’s truly coming – and not just the man in a red suit!

Mothers Union and Ladies Guild meeting Tuesday 10.30am in St Michael’s hall. Speaker – Sue Coles
According to the internet, “World War One was one of the deadliest conflicts in the history of the human race, in which over 16 million people died. The total number of both civilian and military casualties is estimated at around 37 million people. The war killed almost 7 million civilians and 10 million military personnel.”
This year is, of course, the centenary of the end of (what we know as) World War 1. The numbers above are staggering almost beyond comprehension. When we think that the total population of our country was about 46 million in 1914, we can see that it is not far off the idea of wiping out most of our country!
So today we reflect on the effect the conflict had around the world. It totally reshaped Empires and Governments, created countries and Nations – and made a truly radical impact upon the way that society functioned. Although pressure was already on for women to obtain the vote, it was almost unthinkable that they should work in Industry in the way that they did.
May God’s peace which passes all understanding grow in our hearts and minds Ian Cardinal
