The Parish Churches of

St Michael & St Wulfad, Stone, with

St Saviour Aston by Stone

CHRISTMAS CARD (1) with is week’s pewsheet, please take a card from, the Rectory family to you all. We’d love to greet you all individually, but I am sure you see this would not be feasible.

CHRISTMAS CARD (2) as per last year we hope to advertise our Christmas services by delivering a card to every home in our benefice. Mary Babb and Andy King are coordinating this mammoth task. If you can help deliver please see them!

Occasionally, through the great providence of God, the World produces a leader for the times that it needs. Such a one was Mikhail Gorbachev: someone who would introduce massive Reform and Freedoms into the Russian system – and yet also someone whom history casts aside when their job is done. Who hears of the Gorbachev’s now?

Such a person is John the Baptist. Of whom we catch a first glimpse this week in our readings. At a confused (and in some ways terrible) time his message is of things eternal: get ready - for God’s moment is almost here!

And yet he is also the person that history casts aside. He is not that moment himself: he points to a greater future - something that is beyond himself

At this time, how like the task of the Church: we witness to something great that is upon us, even in our midst – to something that is beyond ourselves! In all the hurly-burly of Christmas preparations we point to that which is coming upon us – Emmanuel: - God is with us

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who has worked so hard for two successive excellent weekend events! The Aston Christmas Fair was its usual bubbling self and raised over £1600 in the afternoon. The following weekend of the Christmas Tree Festival saw large numbers of people through St Michael’s and culminated in the largest Christingle service we have ever had – over 400 packed in! Well done to everyone – now let’s make the rest of our Christmas services and events as good!
