The Parish Churches of

St Michael & St Wulfad, Stone, with

St Saviour Aston by Stone

“And I think to myself” sang Louis Armstrong “What a wonderful world!” And so it is – whether you gaze up at the Stars and think how infinitesimally small we are in comparison to the Heavens – or whether you gaze down a strong microscope & ponder how minutely life can still exist – the Creation is indeed a wondrous thing

But to wonder at Creation is one thing – and it takes another set of eyes entirely to see what Christian people see – that the whole vista shows the presence of God in Christ Jesus. For the Apostle Paul in today’s Epistle reading, the whole thing is obvious: that is, that in Christ the whole thing is revealed – and that nothing exists without him

At this time of year I confess to being fond of remarking to Funeral families that, whereas we may not yet see it, we know that Spring is on the way – and that evidence of New life is all around us. For those with eyes of faith, everything resounds of God at work!

Of course not everyone can see it – indeed it is not unusual to hear the cry of “I don’t believe in God after this has happened” on such occasions. And even those of us who are “of the household of faith” need to remember that it’s all too easy to be distracted by other things. But never forget the essential truth – the wonderful world speaks of a wonderful God – and that Jesus Christ has come that he might be known
