STONE DEANERY SYNOD welcomes Mr Jonathan Hill as its Speaker this session. Jonathan is our Diocesan Finance Director and should be worth hearing – all are welcome

MENS FELLOWSHIP meets this Thursday in St M&W Church. The speaker is Inspector Paul Jennings: “My experiences as a Police Officer”

How good are you at Maths? Can you remember complicated formulae from you years at school or college? Or are you someone that struggles to reconcile your bank statements? It’s perhaps comforting that we now know that there is such a thing as dyscalculia as well as dyslexia!

So when Peter asks Jesus about forgiving others, I wonder how you’d cope with the sums? Peter’s thought is just seven times – but Jesus goes way beyond that:- seventy seven times, or seventy times seven – or even perhaps Factorial 70 i.e.

70x69x68x67x66x65 …….and so on and so forth. You end up with a number so enormous that none of us can comprehend it.

And why does Jesus suggest this to Peter? Simples, as they say on the adverts: it’s because that’s the way that God forgives us! Archbishop Desmond Tutu refers to God as” the ultimate amnesiac,” forgetting our sins just as soon as we ask him to forgive them!

So we are the ultimate people – not ultimate as in best, but ultimate as in forgiven! Such people belong to a wonderful God – and such people are wonderful in return, because knowing ourselves to be so completely forgiven, we are set free to pass such forgiveness on in a world that so badly needs it
