The Parish Churches of

St Michael & St Wulfad, Stone, with

St Saviour Aston by Stone

CONFIRMATION Bishop Geoff is coming on September 16th to the 10.45am Service to Confirm candidates from this Benefice. We believe (and it is not totally certain as yet) that we shall have Nine people to present to him, so please uphold them in your prayers and come and support them on the day

We once bought a smart new family car (well, new to us!) and it looked fantastic – so much better than the chipped and worn vehicle it replaced and we were thrilled with it. But within the first couple of weeks it became obvious all was not well:- it misfired badly when cold; the indicators failed to cancel when cornering; and it turned out its spare tyre had been removed from the boot!

Outwardly great, inwardly rather poor – and wasn’t that like the Pharisees in this week’s gospel? All outward show, but their hearts were all wrong. God sees and judges by what is within of course – and the Lord invites us to a rather different way of living.

Today we have some mixed feelings at our worship as Sally, our much loved Curate, conducts her final services. But for all the sadness there must also be rejoicing:- we have had a part in the formation of another Christian Priest and Minister; someone else to lead the Church and tell the “wondrous story”; someone else to lead people to the new way of Christ; someone else to inspire true hearts and not mere outward show!

And perhaps the greatest thing of all for us is that when we meet to share in the wonderful sacrament of the Eucharist, our very nearness to that same Lord means that none of us is very far from one another!
