The Parish Churches of

St Michael & St Wulfad, Stone, with

St Saviour Aston by Stone

It’s always worth flagging up our successes, and I am delighted to be able to tell you at this stage about the latest news on St Michael’s Hall. 5 years ago, when we realised that the Trustees were effectively dead, we began the lengthy process of evaluating the Hall and seeing what could be done – and we finally have positive news to be able to celebrate

The building itself is actually quite sound: that is due to the hard work of the Stone Revellers over the years, plus many years of caretaking by Lawrence Austin. But even so, work on the roof is needed: wiring and heating need a good overhaul – and it could do with a good spruce-up to be attractive to 21st century use.

Finally the new Trustees have been appointed as the Rector and Churchwardens of St Michael & St Wulfad, after long and careful negotiation with all interested parties. This has enabled us to begin the process of applying for grants and to engage with a process that will probably take a full 5 years to complete from here.

And the work has begun. A new Central heating boiler is being installed as I write: grants have been applied for, for re-wiring. New tables and chairs are being purchased, thanks to a generous and anonymous donation. It seems that the new age has begun for a much loved 100 year old building

But this is also my opportunity to flag up the person who has shouldered a great deal of this work:- Dennis Abbott. Dennis agreed to manage the Hall for us when Lawrence first fell ill and has worked unstintingly ever since. Well done Dennis! And thank you so much everyone for your perseverance as the Hall project gets underway over the next few years
