MAUNDY THURSDAY WATCH OF THE PASSIONAs usual we shall hold our Maundy Thursday Eucharist at St Michael & St Wulfad’s at 7.30pm. This is followed by the Watch, where we take it in turns to watch with Jesus, before his arrest. Please can you complete the slot you would like to take, in 30 minute periods. List at the rear of each Church

What are you doing on Thursday lunchtimes? At St Michael’s we are holding a Frugal lunch at 12 Noon each week, where proceeds are collected for Christian Aid and for Church funds

Lent is a time for reflection and self-denial, of course.   We have various opportunities on offer in our Benefice – Morning and Evening Prayer on Mondays and Tuesdays, the Lent talks on our separate vocations on Wednesdays – and, of course, Bishop Michael’s Lent appeal for help in Mental Health concerns. But I should like to commend to you especially these Thursday lunchtimes. They  give us an extra time to meet together, to “live simply, that others may simply live” – and, of course to help a world that is all too often of people in the most severe need across our Globe

So do come and join us. Frugal does not mean the same as “hunger” – and we are offered some delicious home-made soups, bread and cheese and the like. Fellowship in Christ is priceless, of course – and we celebrate the good things we have in our own lives

“What can I do to change the world?” is a question we often ask ourselves. This gives us a small chance to do what we can – and you will be warmly welcomed as meet together

MAUNDY THURSDAY CHRISM EUCHARIST – LICHFIELD CATHEDRAL

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

I am writing to invite you, and those among whom you minister, to join me in our Cathedral church at 11am on the morning of Maundy Thursday, 18th April. This is a great opportunity for us to come together in mutual support and prayer as we prepare with our people to enter into the great three days celebration of the Lord's passion and resurrection which makes us his people.

I look forward to us gathering together as one family from across our far-reaching diocese in the place hallowed by the prayerful, expectant and generous witness to Jesus of our first bishop, St Chad. We will celebrate the Eucharist; we will reflect n the Word of God; we will bless and receive the three holy oils; and we will renew corporately and individually our commitment to ministry. Soup and rolls will be served afterwards, and you are warmly invited to share in this as you greet friends and colleagues from around the diocese.

I do hope that, as those who share in ministry with me and my brother bishops, you will be able to join me in this celebration, and that you will encourage members of your church to accompany you.

Be assured of my prayers for you and your people at the beginning of Lent, travelling towards the joy of Easter.

Your brother in Christ  + Michael. Lichfield
