St Michael & St Wulfad, Stone, with

St Saviour Aston by Stone

NEXT SUNDAY 15TH CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT4pm at St Michael and St Wulfad: As usual we hold our own Carol service for all parishioners to enjoy. Do come and join the joyful singing

I wonder what you make of this week’s Old Testament reading? The prophet Isaiah tells of a time when wolves lie down with lambs and even Lions become vegetarians! It all sounds most unlikely, doesn’t it?

Of course, if we are thinking straight, we might associate it all with the stories of creation in the book of Genesis. When God creates all the animals and Adam names them, there is no thought of them eating each other! In our current world, animals (and people!) strive against each other for food and other resources – I have just watched two squirrels chasing each other for nuts. But maybe that’s not how creation really ought to be. Maybe, just maybe, we can hear from Isaiah about creation re-made; creation put straight – and all this is in the promise of the Messiah

Advent is about getting ready of course. We make ready for the time when the King comes, to right all wrongs – and to put us on the true path again. We all know we have been waiting a while now – but in Jesus we see the glimmers of hope fulfilled. And our first taste of John the Baptist is as his Herald

So are you ready? Not just for Christmas, with all that it brings – but for King Jesus when he comes. The one thing is absolutely certain. Our world will be very, very different
