Alleluia! Christ is risen!

He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

This week’s gospel continues from last, where Jesus has been talking about himself as the true vine: he instructs his disciple to “abide in him” of course and warns that apart from him, we can do nothing.

This week Jesus calls us to “abide in his love” – in other words, it is his love that is the hallmark of his church. His love is not something that we have to strive to accomplish – rather it is our own “abiding” that will do the trick: once we discover his love for us, we will simply not be able to avoid passing it on to others. This is what will change the world

In our sad age we can reflect on how the world’s problems are caused: strife for power or wealth, hatred of people that are “different” from ourselves, the rather gross distortion of National pride that seeks then to dominate and build barriers between us. Let’s ask the question: isn’t Jesus’s love a better way to live?
