The Parish Churches of

St Michael & St Wulfad, Stone, with

St Saviour Aston by Stone

Education Sunday – well, no, it isn’t, not really. But this is undoubtedly a time when we need to be praying for our Church School. St Michael’s is a hugely successful school, the largest in the area – and is at the cutting edge of where the Church meets the community in the realms of Christian education

But this year, Mrs Gale is stepping down as Headteacher. From September the school will have a new leader and the Governors are seeking that person right now. The process is fairly arduous of course: all the legal paraphernalia of our times is involved – and there is input from Staffordshire County Council and the Diocese of Lichfield to guide the Governing Body through the process

At the heart of the life of the School is worship and this is the keystone of the difference between a Church school and any other. The school community meets together to learn, pray and share with each other every day. In this day and age every school has to care “spiritually” for its pupils; but in a Church school there is an extra inspection procedure that looks for that added dimension that a Faith school brings. Perhaps you will not be surprised to know that our Church school scored “Outstanding” at this last type of Inspection.

So at this time we are called to pray; we pray for Mr & Mrs Gale in the new phase of life that will begin – and the challenges it will bring after being “at the helm” for so long. We pray for the Staff and pupils that at time of transition may be handled well and smoothly and will not bring uncertainty or anxiety. And of course we pray for the Governing Body that will select the Candidate to be the new Head. May the Holy Spirit rest on and prosper our School community at such an important time!

If you have any foil quiche or pie trays etc, we would be very grateful for them. We will, nearer the time, be looking for items which we can make bigger Easter gardens with, one for display in each church. Please speak to Mary Babb or Margaret Moss if you can help.
