And so, once again, it’s Holy Week: Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey, only to leave it a few days later carrying his Cross. He is condemned by unlawful chicanery among the religious leaders; he is spat upon by the forces of an occupying power; his own people are so shallow that they ease straight from cries of “Hosanna” to ones of “Crucify!”; and his own followers deny, betray and abandon him.

Yes to those of us that have the eyes to see, this is our Victory. Jesus faces the very worst that the world can throw at him – and holding it to himself he kills its power stone dead! There is no suffering in the world that our Lord does not know about; there is no pit so deep in which we can find ourselves and not discover the truth of the Lord walking beside us if we care to see

So this week is about our walk with Jesus. He will walk with us – but will we walk with him? Dare we – attend the services of this week that show us the pain that he bears for us? Dare we walk through the town on Good Friday, following the Cross, showing that we are his people? And can we get up early on Easter Morning to wait for that coming of the Light of Life itself, bringing his power and glory upon the world?
