St Saviour Aston by Stone

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR on Saturday 21 November from 10.00a.m. to (and in aid of) St Michael’s hall. There will be a variety of stalls including jewellery, soaps, soft furnishings, wood carving, pens, baby's and children's knitted items, but still have a few spaces. Refreshments and light meals will be served during the day. Any contributions of cakes, crafts etc. for our own stall will be gratefully received and admission is free so come along, enjoy piping hot oatcakes and do some Christmas shopping!!

SOCIETY OF CATHOLIC PRIESTS are conducting a concelebrated Mass at St Michael & St Wulfad for their meeting on Wednesday. SCP are affirming Catholics who accept and approve the Ordination of Women to the Episcopate and Priesthood. Our own Associate Priest, Fr John Cotterill, is chief celebrant

It’s that time of year again, with so very much to do: I was slightly dismayed by a note this last week informing me it was “50 days to Christmas.” Of course Advent begins at the end of this month and that will be the real “preparation” for us all

So – have you thought of what you will do in the run up to Christmas? It’s just as important as Lent for Christians – and you know how I think that we need something positive to do at such times. We shall be starting “Christmas countdown” soon with a few simple Bible studies – but if you can’t manage those, why not some simple rule of life at home: a set time to pray every morning, or setting aside time to read the Bible, for instance?

The clock on Knaresborough Parish Church, where I was a Curate, used to bear the legend “Redeeming the time.” It’s a good lesson for us all of course, as well as a quote from Ephesians 5. At a rather special time of year, let us all take the time to think about what’s really important in our lives!
