The verses from our Epistle for today remind me of our Salvation Army Cadets' Sessional Song: I was in the cohort named the 'Proclaimers of the Gospel' (1984-1986).

To be honest, when we first heard it, we were a tad disappointed. We were young and raring to go, and our Song lyrics were quiet; contemplative, even.

But gradually, we began to understand the significance and the importance of experiencing God's light shining in our hearts to give us the knowledge of Christ within us. For, unless we knew Christ for ourselves, how could we possibly be the channels for His light to shine through us, as we 'proclaimed the Gospel'?

How glad are we all today then, to have received this light and knowledge, and to  welcome Christ Himself into our hearts,  so that others, too, may know Him.

As an Old Army song says:

Only as I truly know thee

Can I make thee truly known:

Only bring the power to others

Which in my own life is shown.

(Ruth Tracy)

Thanks be to God for His grace, love and mercy!
